CICS Monitors & Utilities
CICS system support programs are provided as part of a CICS install,
tune-up, or annual support. The programs provide the following functions:
-
Message management
-
VSAM monitors
-
Monitors
-
Utility
-
Security interface
-
Timers
Terminal Autoinstaller
An extremely flexible VTAM terminal autoinstaller. Documentation can be
found at the end of this section.
Monitors
SS23 -
|
User activity report. Displays user and terminal statistics and task
information.
|
SS35 -
|
Program activity report. Displays statistics, AMODE, RMODE, and other
information.
|
SS42 -
|
Terminal activity report. Displays statistics, and other terminal
information.
|
SS51 -
|
CICS system status, storage and task activity. Also displays VSE GETVIS
analysis.
|
SS52 -
|
Detailed task analysis. Storage, program, command, state. Also
displays VSAM deadlock, CI lock, split waits, and keys of records as
they are being processed.
|
SS59 -
|
Displays a report of GETVIS usage for the MVT/VSE operating system.
|
File Monitor Tools
SS34 -
|
File activity report. Displays statistics and file state.
|
SS62 -
|
Display file statistics, state, etc.
|
SS63 -
|
VSAM performance analyzer. Evaluates the performance of VSAM files.
Data and index components are evaluated separately. Data can be
saved from day to day.
|
SS64 -
|
Display VSAM file information such as CI sizes, freespace, etc.
|
SS65 -
|
Display VSAM file space utilization.
|
SS69 -
|
Issue a TCLOSE against the file. This allows VSAM statistics to be
updated in the catalog without actually closing the file online. A
batch or TSO LISTCAT can then be executed. Type SS69, space and a
CICS file name.
|
Utilities
SS43 -
|
Bind Image Report
Produces a report of all terminals. Displays features and bind
information.
|
SS44 -
|
Terminal transmission response time analyzer. Measures how long
various messages take to send and receive from CICS to a terminal.
Displays response time and characters per second.
|
SS45 -
|
Bind Image Display
Displays the terminal's NETNAME and BIND image. Also displays CICS
and VTAM screen sizes. Useful for debugging auto terminal definition
or other VTAM problems.
|
Message Management
SS10 -
|
Message Router
This program intercepts CICS system and application messages.
Messages are read from an intrapartition transient data queue or
interval control queue and routed to one or more places based on
options specified in a table. The CICS SYSID and queue name are
added to the front of the message. This allows one message
destination such as a printer to be shared by multiple CICS regions.
|
SS11 -
|
Console Message Writer (DOS Only)
Writes messages to the system console using EXCP level I/O. This
prevents CICS from hanging if the console becomes backlogged. Input
can come from any intrapartition transient data queue, or can be
passed via a START command, or a commarea can be passed via a
LINK or XCTL command.
|
SS12 -
|
Message Display to Printer
If started via the START command, the program retrieves a record.
If it is an ATI task, this program performs a READQ TD. The
record is sent to the attached terminal or printer.
|
SS15 -
|
Sequential Terminal Activator
A PLTPI program to reactivate sequential terminals (SAMI, CRLP,
etc.). The SAMI terminal is automatically placed out of service
when the transactions are processed. This program reactivates
SAMI during a warm start. This is needed since the TCT can no
longer be cold started as of 1.7 of CICS.
|
Security and Logon
SS20 -
|
Also LOGO, a logon interface
A user friendly replacement to CESN and CSSF. Prompts the user for
a USERID and PASSWORD. After signon is accomplished the user is
displayed a global mail message and other information. Also used to
logoff and return to VTAM by typing LOGOF. If you type LOGOF and a
VTAM APPLID the VTAM menu will be bypassed and control is given to
the APPLID.
|
SS21 -
|
Set signon and WHO mail
Used to set the global mail message for the LOGO and WHO
transactions. When a user invokes a LOGO or WHO transaction, the
global mail is displayed.
|
SS22 -
|
Also WHO, Terminal and User display
Can be used as initial screen to CICS logon or invoked at any time
by a user. Displays information about the terminal, system and user.
Also displays the global mail message.
|
Logon and Logoff Exit
A program to provide interfaces to RACF, ACF2, Top Secret, or other
security managers.
SS51 - System Status Display
Displays storage and task activity, timers, and other useful information.
Also displays GETVIS usage for VSE/ESA systems. (SS59 may be used to check
GETVIS for MVT/VSE systems)

Calculates performance factors of VSAM files. Data and index components
are evaluated separately. Data can be saved from day to day to determine
the effectiveness of changes made to VSAM files or definitions. Statistics
are separated into current session, last saved and time of last open. Uses
color to notify of problem performance factors. Type "SS63" followed by an
optional CICS file name.

CICS Terminal Autoinstall Program Version 1.3 Features
The MG Technologies terminal autoinstaller is used to automatically define
terminals to CICS during user logon. This eliminates maintenance of most
terminals since CICS terminal definitions are no longer required. It also
substantially reduces memory since only those terminals that are in use are
actually defined to the CICS region. Maintenance is also drastically reduced
in an MRO/ISC environment. Here are some of the features of the MG
Technologies autoinstaller:
*
|
The selection logic works at all current PTF levels of CICS 1.7,
2.1 and 3.x without modification! This allows us to provide upgrades
easier. It also eliminates any concern when PTFs or a refresh is applied.
|
*
|
Four selectable name generation options and provisions for custom
code. The four generation options are: 1 - use last four characters
of netname, 2 - use first four characters of netname, 3- use any
four positions of netname, 4 - generate a number from 0000 to 9999
during logon. The custom name generation option is code unique to
your company.
|
*
|
A single table to optionally cross reference netname and CICS
terminal ID, and to assign printers by netname or CICS terminal ID.
|
*
|
Table macro checks for duplicate netnames or CICS terminal IDs.
|
-
|
Support for all standard 3270 screen sizes: 12x40, 24x80, 32x80,
43x80, 27x132 as long as the MG Technologies supplied models are
used. Model one (12x40) support does not require changes to source code.
|
-
|
Support for color and hilight-only terminals as long as the MG
Technologies supplied models are used.
|
-
|
Support for all valid model 1 and model 2 bind images. (X'01' and
X'02' screen sizes).
|
*
|
LUTYPE1 terminals are supported by selecting the first model.
|
*
|
If only one model is passed from CICS, the autoinstaller accepts
that model so the terminal logon will not fail due to no model
selected. This is useful when non-3270 type terminals are autoinstalled.
|
-
|
Can run in 31 bit addressing and runmode. This is useful if you have
a large terminal options table. The table can be placed above the
16M line.
|
-
|
Diagnostic messages are activated by CECI and viewed by CEBR. They
are also written to a special transient data queue.
|
-
|
Diagnostic and error messages assist in implementation and problem
analysis.
|
*
|
Expanded bind information. The bind information includes the RU
sizes and PSERVIC.
