CICS Introduction and Concepts
AUDIENCE: Persons that require a generalized and up-to-date overview of CICS. This class contains information that is useful to applications, operations, systems, and the user staff.

OBJECTIVE: Illustrate the potential uses and benefits of CICS. Introduce the student to the teleprocessing environment and various CICS features.

DESCRIPTION: This class provides an "A to Z" overview of CICS. A full range of important CICS information is covered. This course is designed to illustrate practical uses for as many CICS features as possible.

Several sample CICS environments are illustrated. Common CICS implementation, design and operational errors are also discussed.

Many topics are covered in non-technical terms and are adjusted to the needs of the audience. New CICS users will find this class very valuable.

CICS For Managers
AUDIENCE: MIS and DP directors, system and application programming managers and project leaders. This seminar is designed for MIS managers of companies using or planning to use CICS.

OBJECTIVE: Present the management considerations of CICS. Illustrate how to enhance overall productivity of the CICS staff. Provide information on solutions to problems, staffing and enhancements.

DESCRIPTION: This seminar informs managers of what should be expected from CICS and the CICS staff. Realistic schedules for various projects such as application development and installation of new CICS releases are discussed. Common application, system and operational problems which can affect reliability, performance and usability are covered. Actual case studies provide comparisons to illustrate several important points. Participants are brought up-to-date on new CICS enhancements and functions which may improve productivity, data integrity and accountability.

Selecting application packages and system tools are covered. Selecting contracting services is also discussed. An extremely valuable "application system test" is provided as part of the course material to help in evaluating the technical quality of CICS application packages.

CICS Computer Operations
AUDIENCE: Computer operators and CICS system administrators.

OBJECTIVE: Increase the operators productivity and value. Reduce the number of operational errors. Improve the data integrity of the online systems. Outline the functions of CICS and teach proper operational procedures and commands.

DESCRIPTION: The normal and abnormal operating conditions of CICS are covered in this class. Commonly used master terminal (CEMT) functions are illustrated using hands-on demonstrations when possible. Warm, emergency, cold, and automatic startups are covered in detail. Batch utilities and procedures such as printing dumps and traces are also discussed.

The student books serve as valuable reference material which may help develop CICS operations documentation and standards. The student books are available for CICS/TS and CICS/VSE. Special books are available for MVT/VSE 1 sites.

On-site versions of this class are customized to your needs.

WORKSHOP: Hands-on experimenting with CEMT when necessary for on-site classes.
